Fact vs Fiction

The storyline begins in Germany and follows the history of Bram and his elephant Modoc and their affiliation with a regional German circus. On the other hand, no record of Modoc is found in Germany.  When Mr. North buys out the animals the story line becomes a work of literature, in which Bram and Modoc are involved in various adventures that occur at sea near India. During a cyclone in the Indian Ocean, the ship he has stowed away on sinking, and then the adventures of being rescued with Modoc at sea, his adventures in India, the Indian desert, and the Indian teak forests. No record can be easily found of Modoc being in India or the adventures of a Bram Gunterstein there. Upon his return to America the story becomes more historical again and Bram married Gertie, his childhood love, is part of the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus. The episode with the Great Circus Fire of Hartford, Connecticut, which was related to the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus seems to be romanticized into a heroic action by Modoc and Bram to save and rescue many people. The final segment of the novel seems more historical in which Modoc is stolen and Bram, Gertie and Modoc are reunited. There are records of a Modoc at the Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus, and residing in a series of separate animal reserves or animal training centers for movies where Modoc finally dies. Whether or not Bram and Gertie existed is also not confirmable. However, the story is a fascinating combination of real facts about the elephant Modoc and an entertaining, interesting  and emotional storyline.
